When your gear is working right, just you, your gear and the stars...very peaceful just sitting there collecting data. Just thinking about whatever target you are gathering light on....how far, how big and what the hell is it?!? And then afterwards, hunched over your cpu processing the data is almost literaly like cutting a precious stone from raw rock...with the added bonus (curse) of being able to start again if you mess up!
Got into this as a child because of Star Wars. Stayed with it because it challenged the mind and filled it with endless possibilities...even used astronomy to woo my then future wife...sitting on her roof telling her about the stars. Looking forward to getting my boy to the eyepiece.
It's a great hobby.
