I modified my CGE Pro mount by swapping the spring loaded DEC worm with the regular RA worm (early generation mount).
This was a test drive to make sure the mount still worked, and did it ever... best it has performed since the day I got it.

Very Nice Kevin, great capture. Sounds like you had some fun with the gears, that must have been quite the job, good for you man.

Hey Bob, for some reason on the first generation CGE Pro's only the DEC gear is spring loaded while the RA is a regular gear where you had to manually set the tension. What I did was move the spring loaded gear to the RA. I've lost all backlash and the little bit of play that was also present in the RA. Apparently the latest generation of CGE Pro's have both RA and DEC spring loaded gears, but do you think they would just sell the RA unit to me? No such luck.So now my RA is spring loaded and the DEC is manual tension adjustment.. the opposite of what Celestron had.
