What a pleasant surprise to see a faint little glow next to the Ring when I finished my stack on DeepSkyStacker. It wasn't on my atlas, so I resorted to the World Wide Telescope and the faint glow at the 5 O'Clock position is barred spiral IC-1296. A little teasing out in Photoshop and - walla! Made the whole evening worthwhile.

Thanks, guys - yes, Marc, I have looked and looked at other pics of M-57 and I wonder how many people thought the same thing? It has been "processed-out" of every image I have seen. I think all those years of visual astronomy helped me to recognize the little tag-along.

I wonder how many times that galaxy has gotten the "clone tool" (that damn dust mote). Good job w/the teasing. Marc

Nice shot, and congrats on "discovering" IC 1296 :) It's always neat to process your data and find galaxies that you weren't expecting.
