I need two things to do this right
1) good seeing
2) calm winds.

the wind is a big problem for my 18" cass. That's one of the key benefits I expect when I finally get my observatory built.

Awesome shot! I remember the first time I tried imaging this... lets just say there's a reason why I don't have a post of it on this site! lol :) A lot more difficult than I imagined.

the wind really bothers the big cass, even on an AP1200

so I just reduced the exposures a bit so I would lose fewer of them to bad guiding.

it just takes more total exposure time to get to a given SNR when you do it that way.

What a great pic, really like the way out there stuff. How did you decide on 5mn exposures? Marc
