My first attempts at Deep Sky photography were done with 180mm ED lens on my Nikon (a D300, not the F100 in the photo), piggybacked on my 90mm Meade GoTo refractor. I kept the exposures pretty short (10 to 15 sec) and field rotation was rather minimal. Got some good shots of the Double Cluster in Perseus and the Andromeda Galaxy this way.
