Yeah, If I could just find a sucker to trade me straight up and ST-8300M for my C I'd be doing great. Maybe I'll try the Astrogb chat first...

Wow Bill. That's insightful. I'm a DSLR user who is going to take the plunge as soon as the remaining funding comes in to go CCD. I have a feeling that I'll end up with mono plus a wheel. Your comment about "even if I couldn't afford the filters right away" is interesting to me and although I've not thought about it like that I have a feeling I'd share the sentiment. I'm sorry for your buyers remorse, but if it's any consolation to you, I think you may have just saved me from it. These devices are too expensive to mess around with. But I'll bet you can sell the thing in a heartbeat on astromart because loads of people want one.

Steve, thanks for the complement! I think the image has some very good qualities. I'm a bit unsatisfied with the color. This image's color is cranked way up and isn't quite right. I'm still not sure if the problem is the camera or a loose nut behind the camera.

Neil, I've only managed a couple of finished images with this camera, both posted here (M13 and M81/M82). Between unusally long stretches of cloudy weather and trying to learn CCD vs DSLR imaging I've had a few sessions I had to chalk up to learning and throw out my data as useless. As far as buying the camera, I am having serious buyers remorse. I wish I had purchased the mono version and then saved for the wheel and filters. But, if I had it to do all over again I would save my pennies and get the QSI 583 mono, even if I couldn't afford the filters right away.

Interesting. Is this true for all of the images you've seen taken through this camera? I was considering getting one myself, but your comment is making me wonder.

I'm disappointed witht he color depth of the SBIG ST-8300C OSC camera. This is from 110 minutes at a fairley dark site. The tracking is good and the resulution is pretty fair, but I had to pump up saturation and play with hues to get the blues to come out
