Still Here

Hi Trevor,

Yep, still around. Got an 11" celestron and cgem mount to go with the EQ-G and 70 and 127 mm scopes. Also a guider from kw telescopes in Kitchener-Waterloo that they make themselves using a small finder scope and qhy5 cmos camera. Love it. Spending about 4-5 hours per subject, ending with 2-3 working 'finals' then layering in photoshop elements. Seems to make a huge improvement in my final images

Hey Charlie, glad the pod went up ok and your house isn't sliding down the hill - yet. Those boxes were BIG. Sending a couple of images. Installed some rubberized flooring in the pod since I'm not starting with a pier. This stuff supposedly dampens all vibrations and I can curl up and sleep on it. Also including the setup for this year. My mount and 80mm apo on the bottom, my new Stellarvue 70mm apo on top. The modified Canon D-1000 on the Stellarvue, the Sbig on the Orion Sirius. Also found an… Continue

Yeah, but if I get a skateboard, I'll end up breaking my neck and have million-dollar medical bills, so maybe the telescope is the cheaper route? lol

I think I'm gonna go with the C6-RGT on the CG-5 computerized mount….for now...

Hey Dave, thanks a ton for the ton of info!! I think you've helped me make up my mind: to hell with astronomy, I'm buying a skateboard!! Haha! No, I'm gonna look into some of the items you mentioned. Charlie recommended some gear, orion guide pkg, and the Celestron C6-RGT, but if I need at least an 11" to view and photo galaxies, Looks like I've got a lot more digging to do…Again, thanks for the help!

Hello, I saw a lot of your photos on Celestron's site, and I'm thinking about getting a SE 8, and wanted to ask you what you thought about it? I saw in one photo you had one.

Hey David, haven't heard from you in a while! I noticed you haven't posted anything recently, and I thought you might have packed it up. I went to your website and realized you are still imaging like crazy! Your new stuff looks really great. I especially like your recent photo of M109. Cheers!

Yep, know what you mean. I have been researching so much in the last 3 months my head is spinning. For me it is coming down to matching the equipment to the set-up and the DSLR right now is the choice. To me it does not make sense to add really expensive chrome wheels to the new Chevy but the cool chrome wheels that cost less still look great when your wheels spin. Sorry to sound so metaphoric but that is why this site is so great, talking to people like you. Learning is great

Hey Man, thanks for the info, you have explained the mod to me in English. I am going to be getting a new camera set up soon but I am still torn between a DSLR or a CCD so for the time being I am going to give some webcams a try. The mod on the DSLR sounds really great and I may go that way myself because at the end of the day I still have my Sony and a great little Kodak. I really want to get a set-up just for astrophotography and the MOD to a DSLR sounds like the right choice (I think :) ) thanks for the info, it really helps, Phil

Hey Man, I read that you have sent your new camera out for modification, what exactly does the mod do for the camera, I have seen so much on the web about it but all conflicting info and could not find one clear sentence for the final result. Thanks, Phil

Hey Man, Phil here, really nice work with your images and I do mean work in the artistic sense of the word. I always looked at your images on the Celestron's site but to tell you the truth just finding the time to get on the site and upload my own stuff, I never had time to comment on others folks great work like yours. Hats off to you. Anyway getting late for me but I wanted to say hi, BTW I am from Brampton, all my family is still in and around that area including Hamilton, Toronto. I was just up in Ancaster in September enjoying the fall fairs and the escarpment (Bruce Trail). We always fly up to Buffalo when we head up that way, next time I will see if we can hook-up. Again great stuff, you and the rest of the great folks on this site are such an inspiration.
