Never got a deep one (pretty!!). Mine was in the sunset, but it was cool, some guy showed up saying "I hear there suppose to be a comet tonight'' We had camera and tele.

To answer Raymond's question, the original shot was monochrome only. Since I use a mono camera and color filters, color doesn't work very well with moving targets like a comet. So after processing the luminance image I sampled the color from a few spots in Neil's color image of Garradd and brushed them onto a new layer of my image, with layer blending set to "color". This is actually less difficult than getting both the comet and background stars to be stable (no trails). Star trails showing through the comet cloud have to be manually edited out, even after selecting frames with minimal stars in the background.

Excellent image of comet in front of a field of stars. But what do you understand by 'hand colored'?
