Tried this last year with my unmodified Rebel XT. 2.5 hrs did not show half the blues you have and no reds that I could detect. It is a tough target for me as it does not get very high (about 30 deg). Man I want a modded camera.

Thanks Mark and Trevor. Since I started using the Ha filter I've learned how to use layer mask more effectively.
