Thanks, man - the "two" blue patches make up ngc-6914 proper (a reflection nebula), and the surrounding red and purple areas are part of an emission complex which surrounds the primary object. That the striations in the red and purple parts of the complex are natural is supported by the fact that the reflection nebula is smooth in comparison. This object is located in the heart of Cygnus and is surrounded by innumerable other interesting objects.
