One of several new images done with my "new" 25 year old Starfire 142. I've been shooting galaxies with it because the 1000mm focal length makes these smaller targets very attractive - I've always had to crop a lot in the past.

When I was a teenager (very long ago) I was enthralled by high quality audio gear and enjoyed listening to anything from Country to Opera if it was from excellent equipment. This is much the same - the views are so impressive technically that I can enjoy it for a long time. But I'm going to stick with photography.

Nice image - visual observer? Faint fuzzies? I got back into astronomy after AP became affordable and easy with the advent of all the nice dslrs and ccds. I tried doing some visual observing a few weeks ago at the end of an imaging run and - nothing. After 30+ years of being a visual observer, it holds nothing for me anymore. Maybe my eyes are going, I dunno, but crouching over the eyepiece trying to hold one eye closed and using averted imagination is just too much work anymore. I'll stick with my cam and laptop! You are lucky to have such a nice scope - an heirloom for sure.

It's an even better visual scope - stunningly sharp, contrasty images. It almost makes me want to become a visual observer!
