Very nice! Went to Big Island back on 2001 for vacation. Took me a couple years to convince the wife we needed to move here. Sky here is incredible once you get away from Honolulu. Even my semi-light polluted backyard on a bad night kills thebest philly night ever! Cherry Springs...had to look itup because I though 80 miles north of Williamsport was New York, lol. Pulled up the site for the park...sweet dark site!

I think you are right about the size:))) Of course it matters, but to a degree. I still have a second camera - SAC10, much smaller chip with really tiny pixels - still love it, except the new one is more sensitive. And trying to image from such a light-polluted area, where I usually am, I need sensitivity more than anything.
As for Cherry Springs - it's superb site! Besides being one of the least light-polluted spots in the Eastern US, it is very well equipped - electric power in the field, well-organized, etc. It's actually been designed with night-sky observing as it's primary goal. Located about 80 mi. North of Williamsport.
BTW, I just love Hawaii, been to Big Island 4 years ago, went all the way on Mona Kea.

Cherry Springs? I used to live in Pa.....moved here to Hawaii 7 years ago from the Philly suburds...where abouts is Cherry Springs?

Oh, sorry sorry I misread. Great image. I just did a mosaic of the region, my own chip is very small...but size doesn't matter, right ;)....so I was trying to find some one who had done the same to help me work through some processing roadblocks. No worries.

No, this is NOT a mosaic. Just 5x15min exposures. The size of the QHY10 chip plus using Hyperstar at f/2 gives me 145'x97' FOV. Enough to capture both.

Thanks guys! The hardest part with this one was that it's so low - no more than 20 degrees above the horizon - enough to trigger the warning on the hand controller! The mount had a hard time to guide that low. But in the end it came out alright, I guess.
