Hi Steve
As you may have read this is a stack of 36 - 2 minute shots. I've seen guys with the Hyperstar only going 30 seconds and getting reasonable images so you should not have a problem.
I'm imaging from by backyard which is in the middle of a city of 60K so LP is always an issue. I use the IDAS LP2 filter for all of my DSLR imaging. Shooting mono with H-a, OIII or SII will not require any LP filters.
What I like about using the LP filter is it allows me to image longer with the HS (up to 10 minutes on a really good night of tracking) which gathers more signal (photons) and thus deeper with more detail.
One of the draw backs of the HS are the spikes caused by the cables and the camera body if it extends beyond the secondary. What I discovered was if I shaped the cables to form a half circle instead of straight lines the spikes would amost be emilinated. The half circle should have a diameter approx the same distance you have between your secondary and the edge of the OAT - in your case about 3 - 3.25 inches. The image above is before I discovered that of course. This one is after I discovered that.... http://astrob.in/24926/ This was done with 4 minute subframes but I took a softer hand at processing so the colors are more pastel and the contrast isn't as harsh.

Love the photo! have the hyperstar coming this week! Very excited. I have the 8" edge hd scope. I am going to use an Atik 420 mono camera. Hope to get some great shots like this at some point! Looks like I have a big learning curve ahead of me. Do you find with the hyperstar you need to do long exps? If I do anything over 3-4 minutes LP becomes a big factor. Was really hoping to shoot only 1-3 minutes and get some results at F2?? thanks

Ya, we are our own worst critics are we not. :)

The Hyperstar setup caused those flares around the stars (which I now know how to minimize) and I have a bit too much green in it but overall it turned out OK. This winter I'll try for a better one.

Thanks Jules. I'm half tempted to try this area again to see if I can improve on it next new moon but the clear skies are few enough this season so I probably will pick another target.
