Some nasty gradients, sure, but no match for PixInsight's background extraction! I did a bit of a rush job, but any residual gradients were just pushed down to the background. The galaxy data is quite excellent!

I took screenshots of my whole (rush job) process if you want to see PI in action.

Fred, do you have the original raw TIFF master? I think I can handle the color calibration while it's still linear and unstretched.

Haven't tried the the double star yet, I'll take a look.

For the gradients, I find that Automatic BE is a great first pass, then clean up with DBE. Want me to give it a shot? I'm no miracle worker, but I've seldom been let down by PI's background extraction with the right settings.
