This image is looking south from the Mogllon Rim about 20 miles south of Flagstaff. The yellow glow is from Phoenix. It is about 110 miles to downtown from where I was standing. This part of the rim is at 6000 ft and Phoenix is at around 1100 ft. Although it can't be seen in this photo the moon was up too just off frame on the right. Right behind me trucks are cars were also whizzing past. The Milky Way filled the sky from one end to the other.

Hey Russ, yep from the overlook heading down off the rim heading down to the Verde Valley. It is that place where all the trucks stop to either sleep or check there breaks. I have done that drive many times and never stopped to get a photo, this time I made sure that I did.
