lol, better focusing will do it...on a ccd an IR filter will help...and then Carboni has a tool to shrink stars...you can also try this which I forget who gave me but I use in CS2:
“Shrinking Stars” trick (from Jack attributed to Dan Verschatse):

1. Open the image file
2. Select > Color Range
3. Choose a bright bloated star
4. Exit Color Range
5. Select Modify Expand
6. Choose a reasonable expansion to include halos (say 8 to 10
pixels)
7. Set Feather to about 3 pixels plus or minus 1 pixel
8. Filter > Other > Minimize > radius (1 pixel) > OK

I am sure that almost everyone on here has their own process.

Pre shot star shrinking? Lower the ISO?? Or just better focusing?

Lots of little tricks you can use to shrink them too. pre and post shot. It's a learning process my man. I learn something new everytime I log on.

ThanksTrevor,
perhaps longer exposure and lower ISO would help star bloat.
