Sure thing but double layering from shorter exposure is also a way to go, in other words get the lower exposure shot and keep it separate to put on top of the final, you can even do a mask if needed to blend the two. All you need are the two final exposures both at the same field size, no focal length change.

Hey guys...Philip, you can do a photoshop trick called layering mask in photoshop, which is pretty much what you are outlining below, to try and bring out the "burned out" area. Check out this video...

You have given me some inspiration to try something new with my camera, I have never tried shorter exposure with higher ISO because I can't turn off the NR, I have clear skies tonight so I am going to give it a shot and see what happens, I will even add some subs. I will post the result good or bad.

Can you matte just the core out to isolate it and comp the info in top?
