OK, but a more serious question is whether it is worth it. What I mean is that for visible light imaging, Earth-based telescopes with exotic adaptive optics can do just as good a job - maybe better, given that much larger telescopes are viable. I think that is why all the recent activity in space telescopes has been in infrared and other bands that can't be done from Earth.

It would be unreal. Wish there were a price tag, then there'd be something to shoot for you know lol . Gyroscopes, solar power, etc. It's totally doable.

Of course that would leave the ground support, imager, mechanics on the scope....hey do you need permission to do something like this?

I discussed this with my cousin recently. He said that if I could come up with the money for the telescope he'd provide the launch vehicle!
