Mazatlan sucks. I'm feeling really sorry for the people there, drug wars stopping tourism, the city is falling apart, it's super sad. But the town is going criminal in a big way as regular folks are being financially pressed to the exteme Aweful to be walking through there knowing what' coming for those people. Horrible.

I'm not a hotel dweller, but this trip I was. The situation here is deteriorating quickly. The drug wars are scaring tourists, and famous vacation hotels and restaurants and the like are closing up. Think that town is about to turn very criminal.

Charles, sorry to hear that. My wife and I went to Mazatlan earlier this year. I didn't get quite the same sense of problems that you did, but it definitely was not what you could call a great vacation spot. On the other hand, if you're the kind of person that just wants to stay at a resort and veg out by the pool, you can go to Mazatlan and never see anything other than what you would see at any luxury resort. Especially if you keep your eyes closed while traveling to/from the airport!
