It depends on how you capture it and the nature of the proms. Sometimes if they are redshifted or blueshifted enough you can grab surface and proms but most of the time because of the higher gamma required for proms you have to do a prom shot and a surface shot. Then blend and/ or feather to your heart's content in PS or Gimp.

Thank you, Scott! Do you "blend" separate images of surface features and prominces into one image or can they both be captured at the same time?

Well I assume you already know how to align stuff to the sun, so I'll skip that. What I dis is I mad a cardboard hood for shade so that the screen is visible in the glare. You must have at least a 2x barlow lensor the PST will not reach focus on the camera. You also must be able to unscrew the lens assembly from the barlow and mount the cell in the nosepiece of the camera. For me, and additional 3x barlow helps as well, but my chip is a big one as I have a DMK 41. Focus the camera through IC Capure, but do it slowly- the PST has image shift that makes it a little pain to focus. Set gamma around 80 for surface detail and 180- 200 for proms. Exposure varies on the transparency of the atmosphere at the time of imaging. Use the tuning ring to put the scope on band. I do everything through IC Capture. I collect around 800 -900 frames and process in registax, as I like the wavelet feature, but you can use whatever you want. If you need anymore info, let me know :D

Scott - I have enjoyed your images, especially your solar images. In fact, you inspired me to purchase a Meade PST, which should arrive 3-26-13. I hope you don't mind if I "hit you up" for advice on how to use it. I have a DFK cam so I think your input would be very helpful. Thanks in advance - Jeff
