Your work is getting better and better! Thirty years ago it was almost unthinkable that an amateur astronomer could come up with an image like this... amazing detail.

Thanks everyone it sort of drove me crazy to add some Ha to this.

Dave, this looks great. You really squeezed a lot of detail out of M82 considering the FOV and plate scale of this image. Nice job.

Looks great Dave

Holy crap - did you add more time to this or something? This is bloody amazing! Excellent details, man, jesus.

Star cores are a little washed out, I would have used a star mask (or better yet an atrous transform to remove the residual layer with a morphological dilation to just do the cores) to keep them nice and bright. This is a super shot though. Absolutely wall worthy. You're printing these out, right?

Actually the thing I was happiest with was keeping star size down and star color up. I tend to end up with white stars all the time

Trevor about 2.5 LRGB I added about 2 more useable hours of Ha to it, though it was slightly off register n caused a few halos n bad color in the stars. Took forever to tweak most of it out of there.

Wow Dave, that is stupid sick! Crazy detail in both objects. How much time total?

Comment by Franco Basti on January 29, 2012 at 10:04am

Wow...that is a really good image

Unfortunately I cannot frame both with my setup
