Great, Charles, the 90 lbs will create a bell at the bottom. Good move. Also, don't be too concerned about the bolts. Once you tighten them down, all the play will be gone.

I hope it's ok, I did fill in around the tube with an extra ninety pounds of concrete, so this sucker should be in there pretty good. If not then I'll just have to dig it out and try again. More worried about the anchoring bolts being a touch loose.

Charles,your pier should be ok. That's what everyone told me to do, too. But I was nervous because there is a train track just south of me and I was worried about vibration. So,I over built....
Same with my PZT. The instructions called for wood screws. I know how wood screws pull out after a year or two. So I replaced the wood screws with nuts & bolts. Problem solved...

16 inch 5 feet down. THAT'S solid. You could put a truck ont hat thing! I did 12 inch diameter tube three feet down yesterday, and that seems solid. 16 inches 5 feet.. that's serious!

Hi,Charles, I have a 16" diameter concrete pier sunk 5 feet into the ground that extends upward to the bottom of my deck.Just below the surface of the deck the concrete is topped with 4 bolts. These attach to my steel pipe pier. I did not fill the pier with sand or anything else, for that matter. The metal pier is just over 6"in diameter. Itis a bollard, like the yellow tubes you see in parking lots. Much cheaper than a pier the same size....

cool!!! what is the diameter of the cement pole that your pier attaches too and how far into the earth did you put it?
