I appreciate the insight, Starhopper. Thank you. I'll try some wide field shots the next time we have even remotely clear skies. So far, it's been terrible this year...

Hmm. Maybe I'm missing something, but don't I want a wider aperture for shooting DSOs? More photons and all that? I'm still traversing the learning curve in many ways, so please excuse my ignorance where applicable.

The flattener I'm using is a reducer also (0.8x). Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the 72mm... Also, being a doublet, won't I have to worry about secondary colour?

No doubt you'll get m31 with the 72mm. Here is a useful FOV calculator http://www.howardedin.com/articles/fov.html. I hope this helps!!

The FoV is a bit narrow. I barely fit M31 in a single frame. Anyone have any ideas?
