IC 1871 is a portion of the larger IC 1848, the Soul Nebula. The image was created from two different telescopes. The broader image of the IC 1848, the Soul Nebula,was taken with a Takahashi FS152, and a FLI PL16803 camera and is a narrowband image in the Hubble palette taking 485 images over 16 hours. The detail in the center was taken through a Planewave CDK20 and a PL16803 and involved 42 images over 14 hours.
