First time out with the new gear. Just managed to get off a single shot before the clouds rolled in. Here for illustrative purposes, nothing more. More to come.

There were actually two of them:

And for comparison, some other examples of CR/GRBs on CCD chips:

Its a cosmic ray hit. I've got rid of dozens of them. Interesting thing is I seem to get lots of meteors in frames and maybe a asteroid or two and I always try to calibrate them out. Maybe I should calibrate them in :)

I examined the FITS again. It's a cosmic ray without a doubt. The scaling for the upload here has reduced the intensity, but in the original, the pixels are most certainly flipped.

Would have been cooler if it were an asteroid, but just plain old sporadic Universal radioactive decay.

Thanks guys. I was pretty impressed at how much detail I got in a single shot, bearing in mind that the moon was up. The tracking was sub-par also; might need to tweak some PHD settings or switch back to my LVI smartguider. Anyway, I really hope to get more scope time soon. I'm quite eager to see what a full set of subs and calibration frames will produce. Hopefully I'll be able to upload something better next time...

On looking at the image again this morning, I noticed the CCD was struck by a cosmic ray whilst shooting this frame (Bottom, off left centre) - Pretty cool. It's the first time I've seen the cause of so many RAM parity errors in person.

Dude looks for a 4 minute sub frame!
