Mark, I have the canon 70-200 L F4, will have to try it out. ( Should be great on m31) But zoom lens with all their many elements are not supposed to be that good with astro stuff. The 400mm is fixed and less elements, so maybe better pics.

Yes, I had the AT 72mm x 430mmfl f5 refractor, but I am a bird photographer and bought the canon L lens 400mm fl, F5.6. So..I sold the refractor and have one scope to do both jobs.
